When we introduced our IU 2030 strategic plan earlier this month, we showcased ambitious goals to advance student success and opportunity, research and creative activity, and service to the state of Indiana and beyond. Each of those efforts is grounded in the distinction of our academic programs.

With today’s release of the 2023-24 U.S. News and World Report Best Graduate School Rankings, we have the latest national recognition of the broad-based academic and research excellence that will contribute to our IU 2030 goals.

A continued national leader in public affairs

For the sixth time in seven years, the O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs is ranked as the top public affairs graduate program (tied for first). The O’Neill School’s Bloomington campus also received number one rankings in the specialty areas of environmental policy and management, nonprofit management, public finance and budgeting, and public management and leadership. Between Bloomington and Indianapolis, the school holds 10 program or specialty rankings within the top 10.

Highly ranked, nationally recognized programs

In total, 17 IU graduate programs or specialty areas rank in the top 10, and 37 are in the nation’s top 25, including programs in business, education, analytical chemistry (seventh) and computer science programming language (23rd). Nearly 50 IU programs or specialty areas placed in the top 50.

The Kelley School of Business full-time MBA program is ranked 22nd overall (seventh among public institutions) and has three specialty areas in the top 10: accounting, entrepreneurship, and information systems. Eight other specialties are within the top 25.

Finally, the IU School of Education in Bloomington ranked in the top 25 in seven of nine ranked specialties, including three in the top 10: elementary education, higher education administration, and student counseling/personnel services.

The excellence of IU faculty and staff

IU faculty and staff have demonstrated unquestioned excellence and garnered national and global recognition. Their efforts reflect the outcome that matters most: students who are prepared to achieve their highest aspirations.
