An incredible fall semester is ahead of us

Welcome to the fall 2022 semester at Indiana University! It is such a joy to see our IU family return to our campuses across the entire state.

Last week, I joined in the celebration of welcoming our new students during move-in at IU Bloomington and IUPUI, and at welcome events like CultureFest and Bridge Week. And, we will officially launch the start of school today with our new tradition of celebrating with First Day of School Cake – I’m looking forward to seeing you for this sweet start to the fall.

This promises to be a wonderful semester with opportunities for our students to take an extraordinary range of classes from IU’s world-class faculty. We also just launched learning.iu.edu, which connects students to university-wide and campus resources to help them study smarter, grow professionally, stay healthy, find tech support and engage with communities of learners across IU.

And the opportunities are breathtaking for a unique collegiate experience outside the classroom through the array of student organizations to join, on-campus performances and cultural events to enjoy, community outreach to serve, and athletic events on every campus to attend. Fall 2022 is the semester we kick off the new tradition of wearing IU gear on Fridays across all campuses.

This exceptional fall semester is made possible by IU faculty and staff who demonstrate unwavering dedication to our university, our students and to each other. Their inspired teaching, scholarly achievements, remarkable artistry and compassionate volunteerism show great commitment to our IU community and to improving our world. I am particularly grateful to all of our faculty and staff who generously share their ideas and participate in ongoing task forces and committees dedicated to strengthening our university.

I am moved by the spirit and life you all bring to our beautiful campuses and wish you a wonderful start to this new academic year at IU.
