Office of the President

As Indiana University's 19th and first female president, Pamela Whitten has united IU around three core missions: Providing broad access to an education for all students; pursuing world-class research, scholarship and creative activity; and improving Hoosier health and the economic, social, civic and cultural development of the state and the world.

Welcome from the president

Welcome to Indiana University, a leading public research university with a worldwide reputation for delivering outstanding education.

From the moment students step onto one of our campuses or log on to IU Online, they become part of a more than 200-year-old tradition of excellence. Our faculty and staff are passionate about helping students achieve their hopes, dreams and aspirations through the more than 930 academic programs offered across our university. IU is home to a world-class business school, the world’s first school of philanthropy, the nation’s largest medical school and the country’s first school of informatics. Countless other programs are ranked among the world’s best.

One of our greatest strengths is our people. Our campuses are culturally rich communities where students, faculty and staff represent all U.S. states and more than 160 countries. They’ve helped IU build a global reputation as a research powerhouse, while also working to better the state and communities we call home.

I am honored to serve as president of this great university, and I’m looking forward to all that we can accomplish together.

— Pamela Whitten
