Celebrating the strength of diversity that lies within IU's student body

This fall, our Indiana University family now comprises more than 90,000 students who come from every state in the nation and 167 countries around the globe. We are particularly proud to share that our IU student body represents a record diverse population of nearly 25,000 students of color — over 30% for the first time. We've also seen growth in our international students, with over 7,400 enrolled. The vast array of experiences, knowledge, cultures, talents, and skills represented in our students is a source of pride and strength as we begin this 2022-23 academic year.

On multiple campuses, an increased number of new freshman have chosen to pursue their IU degrees with nearly 16,000 enrolling this year. This is the first time since the start of the pandemic that we’ve also seen growth in this student population on nearly all our campuses, specifically with increases at three of the five regional campuses.

IU Bloomington has once again broken enrollment records, growing to a total of more than 47,000 students, and they hail from all 92 Indiana counties, all 50 states and 121 countries. The incoming class has also earned a median high school GPA of 3.89 — a new record for our flagship campus.

We're also seeing growth in other areas. IU Bloomington broke a record for both graduate and professional student enrollment, and IU East is seeing an upward trend with increases in the number of graduate and professional students joining the campus as well.

The numbers reflected in our official enrollment data are exciting, but what's more significant is the students represented in these figures and the contributions they will make while at IU. By placing them first in all we do, we have an opportunity to support them in carving out a path for themselves through academics, athletics, volunteerism, artistry, or personal growth during their time on our campuses that will help them achieve their aspirations.

I hope you'll join me in celebrating this incredible population of students made up of unique individuals who represent the future of our university and our world.
