Associate Director, Office of Online Education

The Office of the Executive Vice President for University Regional Affairs, Planning, and Policy is conducting a search for an Indiana University faculty member to serve as Associate Director of the Office of Online Education.

Position Description:

The Associate Director of the Office of Online Education is a 12-month, .5 FTE position that provides leadership, management, and coordination of online education across all campuses of Indiana University. The Associate Director works with the Director of the Office of Online Education to provide strategic oversight of IU’s online education activities. The Associate Director supports Indiana University’s online programs, courses, and students by working with faculty, administrators, and external agencies. The expected term of the appointment is three years. This position may be based on the Bloomington or Indianapolis campus.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Director to serve as the “gatekeeper” for intercampus issues regarding online education, and as the point of final decision making (subject to presidential and Trustee approvals) upon input from others;
  • Maintain an IU portal for all IU online education offerings;
  • Coordinate with state and other entities that influence online education;
  • Work with campuses, colleges, and schools to encourage exploration and implementation of programs that are consistent with IU’s online education strategic plan;
  • Determine overall university resource needs to support online education, needs of specific units, and ways to meet these needs including a pricing policy for IU online education;
  • Establish, implement, and maintain assessment criteria and processes for new online programs and courses;
  • Define IU’s data collection needs related to online education and assure that they are met; and
  • Work with the bursar, registrar and other key units to improve the ease and efficiency of supporting multi-campus courses and programs.

Qualifications:

  • Tenured professor at Indiana University, full rank preferred;
  • Academic administrative experience;
  • Experience with development, implementation, and administration of online programs at IU preferred;
  • Facilitation, mediation, and consensus-building skills;
  • Detail-oriented organization skills;
  • Writing and editing skills;
  • Effective public speaking skills;
