Assistant Vice President for Statewide Academic Relations

The Office of the Executive Vice President for University Regional Affairs, Planning, and Policy (EVPURAPP) is conducting a search for an Indiana University faculty member to serve as Assistant Vice President for Statewide Academic Relations.

Position Description:

The Assistant Vice President for Statewide Academic Relations is a 12-month, .75 or 1.0 FTE position that coordinates the university-level process for degree and program approvals and assists in procedures related to faculty promotion and tenure cases. The Assistant Vice President supports the development and implementation of academic programs and policies at Indiana University by working with faculty, administrators, and external agencies. The Assistant Vice President works with IU’s government relations group and represents IU’s academic programs to the Indiana Commission for Higher Education. The Assistant Vice President reports to the Executive Vice President for University Regional Affairs, Planning, and Policy, primarily taking direction regarding priorities and responsibilities from the Associate Vice President for University Academic Planning and Policy. The expected term of the appointment is three years. This position is based in Bloomington or Indianapolis.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Lead EVPURAPP staff in coordinating IU’s Academic Leadership Council (ALC) including meetings, scheduling, agendas, minutes, website updates, and advising on degree proposal development.
  • Serve as liaison between EVPURAPP and the Board of Trustees for academic proposals. Prepare descriptions of new degrees proposed and coordinate their presentations at Board meetings.
  • Represent new IU degree programs before the Indiana Commission for Higher Education (ICHE). Prepare submission documents for President’s signature, schedule meetings between degree program representatives and the ICHE and prepare representatives for presentations. Demonstrate alignment between degree proposals and campus missions.
  • Participate in IU government relations working group and represent IU to ICHE on matters of academic policy and programs. Work with campus officials in communications with ICHE and the government relations office.
  • Regular attendance at ICHE meetings in Indianapolis and around the state.
  • Coordinate executive-level review of faculty promotion and tenure cases. Compile data regarding promotion and tenure candidates and results for the Board of Trustees and senior leadership.

Qualifications:

  • Tenured professor at Indiana University, full rank preferred;
  • Academic administrative experience preferred;
  • Experience with and/or knowledge of the degree development, submission and approval process preferred;
  • Experience in promotion and tenure approval process;
  • Experience in handling highly confidential matters;
  • Facilitation, mediation and consensus-building skills;
  • Detail-oriented organization skills;
  • Writing and editing skills;
  • Effective public speaking skills.
