Office of Online Education

Indiana University's new Office of Online Education provides leadership, management, and coordination of online education across all campuses of Indiana University, as articulated in IU’s Strategic Plan for Online Education. Directed by Associate Vice President Barbara Bichelmeyer, the office has the following primary responsibilities:

  • Strategic oversight of IU’s online activities;
  • Serving as gatekeeper for intercampus issues regarding online education and as the point of final decision making (subject to presidential and Trustee approvals) upon input from others;
  • Coordinating with state and other entities that influence online education.

Additionally, the office maintains an IU portal for online course offerings, assesses needs for new online programs, determines the resources necessary to implement them, ensures efficiency of delivery, and oversees data management for online education.
