Mark Bruhn, Associate Vice President for Assurance and Public Safety

Mark Bruhn has been with Indiana University for 23 years, and is currently Associate Vice President for Assurance and Public Safety..
In the Office of the Vice President for Planning and Policy (OVPPP), Mark provides executive leadership and oversight for and advises the Vice President and President on issues related to: emergency preparedness, planning, and response; policing and community safety; homeland security, emergency communications; business and academic continuity; physical security of facilities; and environmental health and safety (http://www.indiana.edu/~ovppp).
Mark serves in the Office of the Vice President for Information Technology and CIO (OVPIT), in which he provides executive leadership for activities related to security of computer and telecommunications systems; appropriate deployment, handling, and security of institutional and personal data and databases; and plans and procedures for the continuity and recovery of information systems supporting critical business processes. Previously in OVPIT, he was Associate Vice President for Telecommunications and Chief IT Security and Policy Officer (http://ovpit.iu.edu).
Mark also serves IU as Associate Director (Operations and Practices) in the IU Center for Applied Cybersecurity Research. (http://cacr.iu.edu). In 2002 he was instrumental in establishing the IU-based Research and Educational Networking Information Sharing and Analysis Center (REN-ISAC, at http://www.ren-isac.net), and still serves as its Executive Director.
Mark is an adjunct faculty member in the Indiana University School of Informatics and contributes to student education in cybersecurity and other assurance topics through guest lectures and course development.
Mark was a Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) in the United States Air Force for more than eight years. He served at various locations as NCO-in-Charge of Air Defense and Electronic Warfare Operations.
Mark graduated from Edgewood High School in Ellettsville, Indiana. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Park University (Missouri), and has an Associate of Science degree from the Community College of the Air Force. He also holds two security management-related professional certifications - Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and Certified Information Security Manager (CISM).
