Jim Stewart

Architect’s Office, Engineering Services, Construction Management

Jim Stewart was named an Assistant Vice President for Capital Planning and Facilities in July 2017 after having served as the Interim Executive Director of Capital Projects since December 2016.

In this role, Stewart will manage the University Architect’s Office, Engineering, and Construction Management teams.

Stewart also spent two years as Director of Space Planning and Utilization at the IU School of Medicine, where he maintained oversight of eight regional centers for medical education and approximately 3 million square feet of facilities and property.

Prior to his employment at IU, Jim served 27 years in the United States Navy. He was initially trained as a pilot and spent 22 years as a Naval Aviator. Within the last decade, Jim has held titles as Senior Executive/Chief Staff Officer in Okinawa, Japan, and Navy Pentagon Strategist in Washington, D.C. When he retired in 2014, Jim was the Commanding Officer of Naval Support Activity Crane, the third-largest U.S. Navy installation.
