GRADUATION RATES

In 1998, Indiana University will submit graduation rates to the federal government via the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System Graduation Rates Survey (IPEDS GRS). The IPEDS GRS was proffered as the vehicle to provide consistency in graduation rates reporting while also being substantially comparable to the NCAA graduation rates report.
This methodology requires all degree-seeking, full-time, beginning students be grouped into a cohort for tracking. The cohort is divided into bachelor's and other degree-seeking categories. Graduation rates are calculated based upon the number of students that receive any degree within 150% of the appropriate program length.* Similarly, degrees are to be reported by the same distinction which creates the potential for multiple graduation rates (i.e., bachelor's degree-seeking students who received other degrees, other degree-seeking students who received bachelor's degrees, etc.). Ultimately, when all categories are aggregated, the resulting figure will be comparable to past reports.
