NOTE: The only private Big Ten institution, Northwestern, has a room and board rate for double occupancy (13 meals per week) of $6,126.

Rate reflected is the rate charged to new students.
The weighted average for IU is $4,726 since the room portion of the rates is frozen for returning students. In prior years the freeze
pertained to both room and board. With the implementation of meal plans and points in 96/97, the board portion is no longer frozen.
Approximately 61% of the students chose the 14-meal plan making it the most popular. IU also offers a 19-meal plan, the cost is $4,998 and
ranks 2nd in the survey.

Minnesota: Room = $822, Board = $615 per quarter, total $1,437 per quarter. Academic year is based on three quarters.

Ohio: The rate quoted for 97/98 is the rate for a 2-person room in the south campus residence halls with a 19 meal plus plan.
This rate includes $100/quarter in discretionary spending dollars through the Buck ID plan. Money in this account can be spent at
many on and off-campus locations, including bookstores, restaurants, and convenience stores.

Purdue: The rate quoted in 95/96 was their most expensive rate, it was with semi-private baths and A/C, the equivalent for that
room type in 96/97 is $5,014. Their average room rates for 95-96 was $4,216.

Wisconsin does not have "meal plans." They have an a la carte system and the amount presented here is the double room rate, plus the Board membership amount, and an estimate of additional money spent per student for 97/98.
