The Appointed Staff of Indiana University

The appointed staff of Indiana University consists of professional, support, clerical, technical, and service maintenance and food service workers who are appointed on a yearly basis. The table below and on the next page show the numbers of appointed employees as of December, 2004, on each campus by functional classification. Of the 11,496 employees, 18 percent are clerical, 16 percent are service maintenance/food service, 43 percent are professional, 15 percent are support, and 8 percent are technical. Forty-six percent of the total number of appointed staff are employed on the Bloomington campus, 40 percent on the IUPUI campus, and 14 percent on other campuses. This table does not include the number of part-time hourly and student workers.
Some staff members have appointments of fewer than 40 hours per week. Full-time equivalency of all appointments is shown in the last column.
