Undergraduate Admissions

A comparison of undergraduate admissions, comprised of Beginners and Transfers, for fall semester 2003-04 and fall semester 2004-05 reveals a decrease (-2.1%) in students (Beginners) for the whole university, although the percentage change varies widely by campus. This comparison is based on the number of admitted students (Beginners) as of September 5, 2003, and September 5, 2004--the conclusion of the first week of classes for all campuses. This figure accurately represents admissions activity for the fall semester.

At the time of the survey, the Bloomington and IUPUI campuses accounted for 80 percent of the first-year admissions and 62 percent of the transfer admissions. These figures serve as the official admission statistics for the First Semester.

Figures from both years have been constructed using a new and more representative methodology, recognizing the increasing population of high school students who begin taking college courses in high school. Previously these students were coded as non-degree seeking students and when they arrived on campus after graduating from high school, they were coded as returning students, excluding them from the cohort.
