COMPARISON OF ROOM AND BOARD RATES
                 
Academic year room and board rates for the most prevalent double room accommodation on the main campuses of the public Big Ten
institutions appear in the table below.  For the 2003-04 academic year, Indiana University's new student rate ranks seventh out of ten
campuses.  The new student room and board rate of $5,872 is $832 less than the highest rate of $6,704 and $702 more than the lowest
rate of $5,170 at University of Wisconsin.

1= The meal plan represented for each school is the plan selected by the majority of residents except for Wisconsin, where the 
amount represents an estimate of what the average resident will spend in the debit plan, and Indiana and Penn State, where
the amount represents how much the resident is given to spend in the food units.
2= 2002-03 rates may vary from last year's reports due to final rate decisions being made after the report was sent, variances in 
average food consumption or change in the number of weeks that comprise the academic year.
