SOURCES OF FUNDS FOR MAJOR PHYSICAL FACILITIES CONSTRUCTED OR ACQUIRED

From 1965-66 through 2001-02, the total cost of major physical facilities constructed or acquired on
all campuses was $1,487 million.  Bond issues ($686.3 million, 46%) provide the largest single source
of funds for which income from student fees is dedicated to cover the debt service costs.
Facilities financed from gifts and other ($355.3 million, 24%) constitute the second most important
funding source since 1965-66.  Other funding sources include user fees/revenue bonds ($243.3 million, 16%),
direct state appropriations ($108.9 million, 7%), and federal grants ($93.2 million, 6%.)
On the Bloomington campus the following major projects were completed:  Theatre and Drama Center
and Marcellus Neal and Frances Marshall Black Culture Center ($21,000,000 bonds - student fees,
$5,000,000 gifts and other); Myers Hall Renovation ($4,400,000 bonds - student fees, $6,503,850 federal
funds, $3,596,150 other); Foster Quad - Shea and Martin Halls Renovation (3,000,000 other).
On the IUPUI Campus, The Van Nuys Medical Science Building, Center Wing, Medical Research Facility/
Dally Student Center Renovation ($3,866,000 gifts) and Blackford Street Parking Garage ($9,500,000 bonds -
user fees) were completed.  At IUK, the Science Building and Campus Services Facility ($12,792,000 bonds -
student fees, $917,000 other) was completed.  At IUS, the Life Sciences Building Addition and renovation
($8,443,543 bonds - student fees, $806,457 other) was completed.  At IUSB, the Student Activities Center
($15,671,000 bonds - student fees, $980,000 other) was completed.
