GENDER AND ETHNICITY OF STUDENTS
Forty-two percent of Indiana University's students are male, 58 percent female.  The proportion of women ranges from a high of 70 percent
at East campus to a low of 52 percent on Bloomington campus.  Ten years ago, 58 percent of Indiana University's students were female; in Fall,
1982-83, 54 percent were female. 
Twelve percent of all students fit minority ethnic group classifications as defined by the United States Office of Civil Rights.  The highest
proportions of minority students are found on Northwest campus (almost 37 percent) and IUPUI campus (almost 14 percent).  Northwest
campus has both the greatest percentage of African-American students (25 percent of the total student population) and the greatest percentage of
Hispanic students (10 percent). The largest percentage of Asian students is found on the Bloomington campus (3 percent).
