XSEDE Campus Bridging Engineer - PA3IT
The XSEDE *Campus Bridging Technical Lead supports campus bridging efforts at Indiana University and other campuses by implementing and supporting campus bridging software such as the XSEDE Compatible Basic Cluster Stack, Globus Online Endpoint Servers, and the Global Federated Filesystem Software.
Performs complex technical tasks related to the design, development, implementation and management of XSEDE Campus Bridging services to support campus bridging on the IU campus and at XSEDE Service Provider Institutions. Integrates campuses with XSEDE and local resources; installs and administers Linux clusters and systems; implements campus bridging software; and integrates systems with existing XSEDE services. Participates in software reviews with the XSEDE Software Development and Implementation Team and the XSEDE Operations team, providing local campus testing results for implementation and readiness reviews. Works with campus system administrators at IU and elsewhere, with varying levels of experience, to assist in software installation and implementation, providing data movement and distributed workflow functionality to science users.
Works with local researchers in order to choose appropriate services and integration of services with research workflows; and consolidates system study documents and ensures final documents are updated as necessary and securely stored. Improves development and promotional release processes and documentation including design and deployment of wiki pages, video presentations, etc with the overall goal of improving customer satisfaction and trust in the software reliability, usability, and maintainability of campus bridging software.
REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree in computer science or closely related field and two years of experience.
Combinations of related education and experience may be considered.
Knowledge of Linus/Unix high performance computing applications and clustering technologies. Must be highly experienced in Linux server and cluster technologies; and possess knowledge of Linux/Unix high performance computing applications and clustering technologies. Demonstrated ability to install cluster/server applications, troubleshoot application software, and write deployment and installation scripts and documentation.
Excellent oral and written communication skills; and ability and willingness to work in a collaborative environment where knowledge, code, and effort are shared among colleagues. Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to cooperate and collaborate on projects/operations with other staff. Ability to keep a positive attitude toward project goals and take ownership of issues and assigned tasks; and commitment to sharing knowledge through documentation, communication and collaboration.
Preferred: Graduate degree in computer science or closely related field; expertise in areas of system hardware installation, networking, system security, system software testing, and parallel file systems.
