Senior Network Operations Technician - SS0H

Provides technical support to the GlobalNOC Network Engineers as well as customers of the GlobalNOC under general supervision. Areas of support include: hardware installation and maintenance; logistical support; database maintenance; and inventory management. Performs technical work to maintain and help resolve complex problems relating to the creation and day-to-day operation of the networks in the care of the GlobalNOC. Diagnoses networking problems and takes corrective action; gathers information related to the services provided by the GlobalNOC; and creates reports with the results. Helps to organize and maintain test laboratory equipment and facilities; and supports the growth and expansion of GlobalNOC networks and participates in the evaluation and testing of new technologies.

REQUIRED: Associates degree in computer systems technology, networking, or closely related field and one year of experience in hardware installation and DC power safety.

Directly related work experience may be substituted at a ratio of two years of progressively more responsible experience for each year of education.

Experience in the areas of computer and network operations, or customer service and support, or telecommunications; experience using MS Word software and e-mail; and knowledge of current operating systems and desktop software.

Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and exercise independent judgment; and demonstrated problem solving skills. Self-motivated, dependable, and punctual; excellent oral and written and communication skills; and thorough knowledge of shipping and specialized networking gear and supplies including ability to use common hand tools as well as light test equipment.

Preferred: Computer networking experience in a production network environment; prior GlobalNOC experience.
