Senior Network Operation Technician - TE09

Under general supervision, provide a wide range of expert technological support to the Global Research Network Operations Center (GRNOC) daily operations with primary support of specifically assigned networks. Participate in project planning, assigned tasks, and progress reports to ensure completion. Prepare weekly network operational reports, coordinate and facilitate customer-network meetings, as well as network moves, adds, and changes. Oversee network monitoring, problem analysis, tracking, resolution, and specialized customer service to ensure operational availability of networks and related systems.

Maintain in-depth knowledge of assigned networks; review technical documents, prepare, update and maintain network documentation. Assist in the development and training of other Service Desk support staff for specifically assigned networks.

Provide supplemental support for GRNOC daily shift Service Desk technicians for other Indiana University (IU) supported state, regional, national and international high performance research and education networks.

The Service Desk helps ensure operational availability of networks and related systems, requiring high level network monitoring, problem analysis, tracking, resolution, with strong customer service skills. Service Desk technician will assist with diagnosing problems and taking appropriate corrective action.

Required: Associate's degree from an accredited institution in computing, networking, telecommunications or closely related field, plus 3 years of work experience in the areas of network operations, customer support, telecommunications or related field. Supervisory experience preferred . Combinations of related education and experience will be considered on 2:1 ratio. Knowledge of current operating systems and desktop software required. Good oral and written communication skills required, as are demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills. Demonstrated knowledge of local and wide area networks is a plus.
