Principal Systems Engineer - PA4IT OR PA3IT

This position is posted at a PA4IT level but may be filled at a PA3IT rank depending on the candidate's qualifications. Although they will be similar, the duties and responsibilities may differ if filled at the lower rank. Please see the Requirements section below for the qualifications listed for each level.

Serves as a member of the UITS Campus Communications Infrastructure (CCI) team at Indiana University; and represents the Campus Communications Infrastructure team to provide specialized expertise regarding tactical and strategic planning for existing and emerging IT services. Responsibilities include installation, administration and maintenance of various Microsoft technologies including Windows Server, Active Directory, Exchange, Lync, Enterprise Certificate Authority, System Center Suite.

Leads project teams throughout the project management life cycle process, including developing a project plan, defining project goals and objectives, specifying tasks or how goals will be achieved, what resources are needed and associating budgets and timelines for completion. Serves as the primary administrator for one or more services run by UITS CCI Systems such as Active Directory, Exchange, Lync or Enterprise Certificate Authority. Performs and/or oversees tasks such as system and security monitoring as well as verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, and services and key processes. Uses enterprise monitoring tools to review system and application logs; and addresses any monitoring alerts.

Qualifications:
PA4IT Requirements:

REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related discipline and five years of experience managing Windows server environments.

A combination of related education and experience may be considered at a 2:1 ratio.

Expert knowledge of enterprise-level service delivery, including the design, implementation and maintenance of services such as Active Directory, Exchange and Lync. Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment while paying great attention to detail. Experience performing system administration in a large enterprise environment; and deep Knowledge of managing production Windows systems used to support multiple mission-critical services.

Ability to operate effectively in a complex and dynamic environment with competing priorities and tight deadlines; and ability to schedule time wisely, establish priorities and adjust gracefully to changing work environment. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others, develop alternative courses of action, and accept responsibility for actions and decisions.

Salary: Salary range is $64,000-$86,000.

PA3IT Requirements:

REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related discipline and three years of experience managing Windows production server environments.

A combination of related education and experience may be considered at a 2:1 ratio.

Experience working with virtualization technologies (e.g. VMware, Hyper-V); and experience using PowerShell, Visual Basic, or equivalent scripting languages to automate tasks and integrate systems; and history of participating in the design and deployment of critical IT infrastructure services.

Demonstrated project planning and management experience; and ability to operate effectively in a complex and dynamic environment with competing priorities and tight deadlines. Ability to schedule time wisely, establish priorities and adjust gracefully to changing work environment. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others, develop alternative courses of action, and accept responsibility for actions and decisions.

Salary: Salary range is $53,000-$66,000.

Note: This position will be required to share on-call responsibilities with the rest of the team. May be required to provide support during evenings and weekends to meet deadlines and/or perform system maintenance.

Other: The CCI team is responsible for running centralized core infrastructure services such as Active Directory, Certificate Authority, Exchange, Lync and Mail relays. CCI services are consumed by users across all Indiana University campuses. The centralized environment consists of over 500,000 AD user accounts, 50,000 Exchange mailboxes and 20,000 Lync accounts. The CCI team is a unit in the Enterprise Infrastructure division of University Information Technology Services
