Principal Systems Administrator: SaaS-based Teaching and Learning - PA4IT

The Principal Online Service Administrator will be responsible for the administration, research, testing, implementation and support of SaaS-based teaching and learning tools and services that meet requirements gathered by business analysts, the campus centers for teaching and learning, other UITS teams/divisions as well as a variety of other university constituents. Such tools and services include, but are not limited to, the learning management system, digital learning tools, learning object repositories, plagiarism prevention, and classroom response systems.

This position provides the highest levels of tactical knowledge and recommendations for strategic planning, implementation teams, and learning technologies committees. The position will also consult with members of the IU community on policies/procedures (e.g., ADA, FERPA, HIPAA) that often must be addressed in the online instructional environment and research and make recommendations for potential new tools that may be considered to better facilitate the strategic teaching and learning goals set by university and campus academic units. The person in this position is required to maintain an up-to-date understanding of cloud services administration, digital learning tools, integration standards, instructional technology literature and other broad areas of technology implementation in higher education. Additionally, the position will provide coordination and oversight of junior level staff; supervise work performed by outside vendors; and collaborate broadly within the team, across other divisions of UITS, and with other university and external parties. Through sound leadership and project management expertise, the position will guide project workflows in conformance with UITS and university-wide strategic and operational planning.

Qualifications:
REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline. Master's degree or higher is preferred. A combination of related education and experience may be considered.

Five years of experience administering enterprise on-premise and/or hosted applications in a higher education or corporate setting including developing policies and procedures to ensure the highest levels of availability and performance as well as compliance with all applicable regulations. Experience with learning management systems, digital learning tools, and emerging learning technologies. Experience managing large-scale technology projects and initiatives. Customer service experience.

Ability and interest to continue to learn computer tools and skills in the changing and developing field of SAAS based teaching and learning technology online services and systems. A strong service orientation is required as well as strong interpersonal communication, problem-solving orientation, and team skills. Ability to communicate and interact effectively with heads of academic departments, university administrators, and representatives of other campuses, universities and national organizations in representing the Teaching and Learning mission, demonstrating abilities in leadership and development. Expert knowledge of Learning Management Administration, Web Analytics, Content Management Systems, FERPA, HIPAA, ITIL framework, LTI, scripting, analytics and systems management workflow is preferred. Broad familiarity with methods, approaches, and existing and emerging technologies for supporting schools in the administrations, and delivery of learning technology in higher education. The ability to manage professional staff, excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communications skills necessary for collaborating successfully within a diverse University environment. Excellent organization and presentation skills. Must be self-directed and able to juggle competing priorities with short deadlines
