Principal Software Engineer - PA4IT

Develops, tests, and maintains Web-based client and server software to support Indiana University's XSEDE and other Science Gateway activities. Develops Web services, scientific workflows, and Web client interfaces for interacting with high performance scientific applications, scientific data sets, and resource provider information services. Acts as the primary point of contact for XSEDE scientists and other user communities on extended collaboration support efforts to develop science gateways and scientific workflows. Implements database management systems for scientific user communities, develop portable test suites and software documentation (such as user, developer and administrator guides), and evaluate emerging technologies (new Web 2.0 tools and Cloud Computing systems, for example). Assists with the design and long term sustainability (including emergency and after hours support) of the Science Gateway Group.s partner gateways. Contributes to the design, documentation, code base, testing and deployment of Apache Software Foundation Airavata and Rave incubator projects and will assist in the graduation/promotion of these projects.

Qualifications:
REQUIRED: Bachelor degree in Computer Science or related technology area plus five years professional, post BA progressive experience.

Requires proficiency with Java Web development frameworks and related technologies including J2EE, Spring, Apache Maven, JMS and related publish/subscribe messaging, XML, JavaScript, CSS, and MySQL; Experience developing SOAP/WSDL Web services, developing service-oriented workflows, developing software unit testing, developing AJAX-style applications, developing in Linux/UNIX/Mac OSX environments, developing applications using Eclipse or similar IDE, running production services (including fault tolerance, failovers, monitoring, and clustering) and experience using code version control systems (SVN or Git).

Periodic travel to workshops and conferences.

SALARY: $75,480 per year.
