Senior Network Engineer/Network Engineer - PA3IT/PA2IT

Oversee or participates daily operations as related to the test lab including oversight of supporting appointed staff and hourlies. Oversee or participates the Logistics Team responsible for shipping and receiving various tools and equipment in support of various networks. Under minimal direction provide operational support in designing, implementing, and maintaining networking systems and services, appropriate and necessary for the delivery of information and data across a high performance networking infrastructure environment. Implement network software and hardware systems, troubleshoot state of the art network hardware, provide assistance to users of the network and participate in performance monitoring and tuning activities. Track new products, coordinate, recommend and perform product hardware upgrades. Conduct technology research and development, and provide standardization recommendation; responsible for documentation and upgrading of end-user support.

Qualifications:
PA3IT Qualifications; Bachelor degree in telecommunications, IT, or related.

Three years work experience. Work experience should be in the areas of design, integration, installation, configuration and maintenance of data networks. Experience with several link-layer protocols (Ethernet, SONET, etc.) required. Supervisory experience is desired.

Knowledge of several link-layer protocols (Ethernet, SONET, etc.) required. The applicant must have a broad knowledge of networking protocols, specifically relating to routing of packets (OSPF, IS-IS, BGP, PIM, MSDP, and MPLS). Skills with Cisco and/or Juniper routers and switches very desirable. Skill with optical technologies especially WDM and DWDM, programming in Perl or C, and basic UNIX system administration are also highly desired. Working knowledge of other Internet services and applications within the IP suite (FTP, DNS, SMTP, HTTP, etc.) is also required. Knowledge of the installation and maintenance of networking or other computer hardware is desired. Ability to handle large scale projects and rollouts helpful; interpersonal skills, technical writing and communications, and understanding of the network standards and protocols highly desirable. Exhibit the capacity to monitor and supervise individuals responsible for handling multiple priorities, constantly changing demands and work effectively in a multitasking environment.

PA2IT Qualifications; Bachelor.s degree in Computer Science, Business Systems or related technical discipline. Combination of related education and experience may be considered.

One years of experience in information technology environment with increasing complexity and scope. Computer networks (local and wide area). Experience with the following is desirable: Layer 1, 2 and 3 technologies. JunOS, IOS-XR, IOS, other network software packages. Practical experience supporting one or more research networks.

Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills are also required. A valid driver license is required.
