Media Preservation Specialist - PA3RS

The Media Digitization and Preservation Initiative (MDPI) seeks a qualified professional to support its mission of preserving IU's large and internationally-known audio and video collections. Job Summary: Directs and train teams that work with IU Bloomington units to prioritize and prepare media holdings for digitization; and leads and participates in both preparatory services and prioritization work activities in advance of digitization. Develops methodologies, strategies, workflows, and procedures, as well as supervises and evaluates the work of graduate students. Assesses both preservation condition and research value of media collections. Researches and advises units on media preservation issues; assists in creating and implementing the campus plan; and serves on teams developing software applications to support preservation efforts.

REQUIRED: Master's degree and two years of experience in audio or video engineering or work in a media preservation environment.

Other combinations of relevant training and experience may be considered.

Expert knowledge of either audio or video media, along with strong knowledge of the other; and in-depth knowledge of media preservation issues including standards and best practices. Strong written and oral communication skills; and demonstrated ability to work with and supervise diverse personnel within a university setting.

Preferred: Master.s degree in Library Science, Telecommunications or a related field; experience evaluating time-based media collections for preservation problems, risks, and research value; experience applying media preservation best practices as well as prioritization data within an institutional setting; strong knowledge of media preservation workflows and of technical metadata for media preservation; experience participating in the development of software applications; supervisory experience as well as strong management skills.
