- Date at which enrollments are “frozen” for reporting purposes. Typically reflects the end of the first week of classes and/or the end of the drop/add period for course registrations to allow for full refunds.

- CIP Code
- Classification of Instructional Program. A six-digit code in the form xx.xxxx that identifies instructional program specialties within educational institutions. More information
- Class Standing
- The level equivalent with the number of hours completed, i.e. sophomore, senior
- Cohort
- Federal definition of a cohort used in compliance reporting for retention and graduation rates: A degree-seeking undergraduate who is enrolled in the fall term who either matriculated in that fall term or in any one of the previous summer sessions. A group of individuals having a common factor (such as age or class membership).
- Common Data Set
- (CDS)—This initiative is a collaborative effort among data providers in the higher education community and publishers, such as Peterson’s, U.S. News and World Report and the Thompson Corporation. The Common Data Set is available for each campus of Indiana University and includes information on admission, student life, financial aid, faculty/student ratio, enrollment, graduation and retention.

- Core 40
- The state of Indiana’s mandated education expectations for high school students. All students who wish to attend public colleges and universities in Indiana must meet the curriculum requirements of Core 40. More information

- Degree-Seeking Student
- Students enrolled in courses for credit who are recognized by the institution as seeking a degree or formal award.
- DOE

- Educational Services Rendered
- The services provided to students at our split mission campuses that reflect activity outside of the IU offerings, i.e. State Wide Technology, Purdue teachings.
- Equity in Athletics
- The Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act requires co-educational institutions of postsecondary education that participate in a Title IV, federal student financial assistance program, and have an intercollegiate athletic program, to prepare an annual report to the Department of Education on athletic participation, staffing, and revenues and expenses, by men’s and women’s teams.
- Exclusion
- Students who are eliminated from cohort tracking studies for accepted reasons, i.e. death, military service.
- Fact Book
- The institution’s compendium of facts and figures regarding budget, enrollments, degrees, faculty and staff, facilities, etc.
- First Professional Degree
- An award in one of the following fields: Dentistry (D.D.S. or D.M.D.), Law (L.L.B. or J.D.), Medicine (M.D.), or Optometry (O.D.)
- FISAP
- Fiscal Operations Report and Application to Participate. You might take a short tutorial if you would like more information.
- FTB
- Full Time Beginner. The Full Time Beginner is also designated as part of a cohort.
- FTE
- Full-Time Equivalent Students is a measure derived from the credit loads of students. It can be calculated on a semester or annual basis. For undergraduates, total credits are divided by 15 for the semester measure and 30 for the annual measure. For graduate students (master’s, doctoral, and non-degree), the divisors are 12 for semester and 24 for the annual measure. For graduate-Professional students (medicine, dentistry, physical therapy, optometry), Indiana University uses the undergraduate divisors (15/30) but the Commission for Higher Education employs the graduate divisors (12/24).
