Monitoring Institutional Effectiveness
We assist with the development of university performance metrics, as guided by Indiana University’s president, to be accountable to the IU Board of Trustees, the people of Indiana, and a wide range of other stakeholders, including alumni, business and industry partners, current and prospective students, and research partners.
Federal and State Accountability
Each year, the federal and state governments collect a wide array of data from postsecondary institutions. The two primary mediators of these accountability requirements are the Indiana Commission for Higher Education (state-level collections) and the National Center for Education Statistics (federal collections).
Indiana Commission for Higher Education (ICHE)
The primary reporting requirements of the Indiana Commission for Higher Education (ICHE) include the annual submission of “unit-record” data files on student enrollment and student financial aid. We submit an annual report to ICHE for all campuses on performance measures and some ad hoc topical reports.
National Center for Education Statistics (NCES)
The U.S. Department of Education, through the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), collects a wide range of data on students, academic programs, faculty, and staff through the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) from every postsecondary institution in the United States. NCES uses the data to respond to congressional requests for information. They also make the data available back to institutions for benchmarking purposes.
Please note: Reports for the IU campuses are posted within the compliance report section of this Web site.
