This is administrative and clerical work performing a variety of difficult tasks related to the administration of the admissions process of a particular school of the University.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Oversees the processing and evaluation of all applications for admissions into that school and accompanying material, such as transcripts, to determine eligibility.
Maintains records and data bases of applications; updates and purges as necessary; gathers and collates information from records and prepares reports.
Reviews applications for completeness, contacts applicant for any missing information or to resolve discrepancies, and obtains any necessary information from other sources.
Schedules and oversees any applicant interviews.
Makes recommendations regarding admissions and financial aid decisions; contacts applicant regarding decision on admission application.
Responds to phone and mail inquiries on admissions process and status of applications; assists in design of recruiting events and materials.
Counsels potential students regarding courses and grades required for admission.
Supervises any clerical staff in the admissions office; monitors and evaluates job performance.
Maintains files and data bases on students admitted into the school; generates reports based on this information.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of computer; and database/word processing software.
Knowledge of admissions standards.
Excellent communications skills.
Good organization skills and ability to set priorities.
Ability to handle multiple tasks under deadline pressures.
Ability to work well with a wide range of people.
Education: High school diploma or GED.
Experience: Two years experience in office environment.
