This is administrative and clerical work performing a variety of routine and non-routine tasks related to the collection of student loans.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Oversees Loan Set-up Process for student borrowers; establishes interest rate, due date, separation date, and amortization and monthly payment.
Evaluates requests for, determines eligibility for, and processes deferments, postponements, and cancellations on student loans; notifies borrower of any adjustment.
Conducts one-on-one interviews with borrowers; explains provisions of loan programs; details borrower rights and responsibilities; and obtains required signatures and completed forms.
Prepares and processes in-house payment receipts after verifying information on check.
Responds to phone and mail inquiries from borrowers regarding procedures and account status.
Maintains and updates files ensuring that information on student borrower accounts is accurate, complete, and up-to-date.
Monitors special loan programs to ensure proper forms are sent and received.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Complete knowledge of Federal student loan programs.
Knowledge of computer and spreadsheets/word processing/database software.
Excellent communication skills.
Good organization skills.
Ability to work with a wide range of people.
Education: High school diploma or GED.
Experience: One year experience in loan or collection office.
