Under direct supervision performs library public and access services duties requiring limited judgment in the application of policies and procedures within the area of assignment.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Assists patrons with basic and routine questions on general subjects using standard reference resources, refers patrons to appropriate staff/service unit for other resources.
Organizes, oversees, and participates in public and access services, which may include the ongoing operations of a public service desk; circulation operations; shelving and shifting of materials, retrieving materials, searching for missing materials; and following guidelines to resolve routine problems related to these activities.
Oversees various health concerns including smoking regulations and biohazards and safety concerns and emergency control including building and fire safety regulations, noise level, and evacuation activities.
Maintains records; compiles information and data for reports, studies, and other purposes. Examines and verifies for completeness and accuracy.
Oversee the work of temporary employees.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of library procedures and resources
Ability to process detailed work with accuracy; strong organizational skills
Knowledge of standard office systems including e-mail, Internet applications, database searching, and working knowledge of computer and word processing/database/spreadsheet software
Good interpersonal skills
Demonstrated problem-solving abilities; ability to pay attention-to-detail and follow established guidelines;
Good oral and written communications skills
Ability to effectively organize tasks and manage time
Education: High school diploma or GED
Experience: One year library experience
