Performs administrative and technical work in the creation and maintenance of specialized documentation and document control systems.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reviews requests for documentation; identifies information needed; determines best methods of collecting, organizing and presenting information.
Consults with engineering and design staff, researchers and end-users regarding design and application.
Prepare technical documentation, specifications, schematics and other sophisticated diagrammatic representations for the fabrication of specialized apparatus, research equipment or scientific instrumentation.
Reviews documents for completeness and format; implements approved changes and ensures compliance with document control standards.
Maintains document control processes, document histories, archival systems or documentation libraries; prepares reports and maintains related records.
May maintain document information on websites.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of computers and database/word processing/spreadsheet software.
Knowledge and skill in the use of CAD and similar software packages.
Knowledge of document management systems and quality assurance programs.
Ability to perform work with high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Ability to work with a wide range of people.
Education: Requires knowledge of standard procedures in a technical field involving extended training. Thorough working knowledge of the practices and procedures in a specialized field typically acquired through completion of a specialty program of over 18 months and up to three years beyond high school.
Experience: One year documentation experience.
