This is technical work performing set-up and execution of laboratory experiments in support of research projects.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Prepares laboratory strains, reagents, cultures, and solutions according to standard laboratory practices and procedures.
Ensures proper washing and sterilization of media, glassware, and laboratory equipment; maintains laboratory and equipment in a clean and orderly manner.
Monitors inventory levels of needed materials, supplies, and equipment in support of research projects and requisitions logistical needs in a timely manner.
Sets up laboratory equipment and experiment apparatus.
Performs procedures established by researchers and records results.
Calculates and measures proper units and ratio mixtures of various chemicals, solutions, and research materials; prepares supplies for appropriate use in laboratory experiments.
Sets up, operates, and maintains laboratory equipment and supplies in a safe and appropriate manner to avoid injury or contamination to research personnel or experiments.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of laboratory testing.
Knowledge of safe laboratory practices.
Knowledge of laboratory equipment, procedures, operation and terminology.
Ability to interpret written instructions related to laboratory procedures and experiments.
Ability to operate standard laboratory equipment.
Ability to perform basic mathematical computations.
Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
Ability to maintain accurate records regarding events and outcomes.
Fifteen hours of college course work in biology, chemistry, or a relevant scientific field and one ywar of work experience in a laboratory environment.
