Job Title and Grade: Condensed Matter Technician / SSOG

This is highly technical work to provide operational expertise for research projects in the Condensed Matter Group.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Assists researchers conducting condensed matter experiments; assembles research equipment; sets up research labs; designs and produces blueprints for research equipment.
Monitors research equipment; performs maintenance and repair.
Makes recommendations on technical and purchasing questions; arranges for purchase of research equipment and supplies.
Fills and transports liquid nitrogen tanks; orders and checks in liquid helium tanks.
Oversees liquid nitrogen and liquid helium accounts.
Coordinates hazardous waste disposal.
Trains graduate students in safety procedures.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of assembly and repair techniques for research equipment.
Knowledge of, and ability to exercise proper care in handling of chemicals.
Good communication skills.
Good organizational and time management skills.
Ability to work with a wide range of people.
Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
Education: Associates degree in physics, chemistry, related field, or two years of college with a concentration of study in the sciences or a related field.
Experience: Two years scientific research experience.
