This is technical work performing a variety of complex tasks related to coordinating, overseeing, and maintaining the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Facility.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Supervises staff and students when engaged in procedures involving calibration and operation.
Designs and builds new equipment; modifies existing equipment.
Assists faculty in constructing and operating specialized spectrometers.
Monitors equipment use; consults with equipment users regarding operational procedures; trains in safe usage of equipment.
Monitors equipment; runs routine calibration procedures to determine maintenance and replacement needs.
Maintains inventory of cryogens; coordinates ordering, shipping, and filling.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of RF circuitry.
Good communication and training skills.
Knowledge of computer and UNIX.
Knowledge of electronics.
Problem solving skills.
Ability to exercise independent judgement.
Education: Two years of college with fifteen hours of course work in chemistry, physics, or related field.
Experience: Three years experience in operating nuclear magnetic resonance instruments.
