Job Title and Grade: Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Technician / SSOG

This is skilled technical work related to the operation of nuclear magnetic resonance instruments.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Trains faculty, graduate students, and other researchers in operation of computerized high resolution pulsed nuclear magnetic resonance instruments; prepares and updates training materials and operational instructions.
Monitors and maintains instruments; runs calibration procedures and analyzes results; calibrates critical parameters; reviews and updates magnet base homogeneity settings.
Monitors equipment and facility use; ensures safe usage of equipment.
Evaluates progress of researchers and recommends advanced experiments when needed; analyzes any problems that arise and corrects them.
Collects and interprets spectral data for researchers.
Initiates new experimental techniques to examine the capabilities of the instruments; recommends experimental variables for such techniques.
Maintains all records for facility usage by researchers; organizes and submits monthly facility account billing and income reports; schedules use of facility and equipment.
Monitor instrument operation schedules; schedule training and instrument maintenance projects and schedule to ensure adherence to laboratory operation restrictions and standards.

Ability to work well with wide range of people.
Education: Two years of college with fifteen hours of course work in chemistry or a closely related scientific curriculum.
Experience: Two years experience in the use of nuclear magnetic resonance instruments.
