This is technical work related to the maintenance of data gathering sites in the field for scientific research purposes.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Monitors and maintains field sites for data collection purposes; sets up equipment; performs routine maintenance and repairs.
Maintains databases and files on collected samples from each location; updates as necessary.
Trains students and employees in use of equipment; serves as resource on technical questions.
Retrieves data in form needed for research purpose.
Collects and stores samples; assists with sample preparation.
Maintains inventory of supplies; reorders as necessary.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of computers and database software.
Knowledge of geological systems and field data gathering techniques.
Problem solving skills.
Mechanical repair and maintenance skills.
Ability to exercise independent judgement.
Ability to perform careful and precise recordings of various field samples.
Education: Two years of college with fifteen hours of course work in geology, chemistry, or a related scientific field..
Experience: Two years scientific data collection experience.
