Job Title and Grade: Electron Microscopy Technician / SSOH

This is skilled technical work performing tasks related to the maintenance and operation of electron microscopes in support of scientific researchers.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Prepares specimens, samples, and solutions for research purposes; assists with design of experiment; arranges physical set-up; assists in research experiment and analysis of data.
Photographs experimental results; develops and prints photos; maintains files.
Monitors and maintains lab equipment; performs simple repairs and maintenance.
Trains faculty and students in use of lab equipment; supervises use of equipment; maintains equipment use logs and sign-up sheets.
Stores and disposes of all chemicals used in laboratory work.
Maintains supply inventory; reorders as necessary.
Supervises any assigned support staff and student workers.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of electron microscopy equipment, techniques, and procedures.
Knowledge of photography/darkroom techniques and procedures.
Problem solving skills.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Ability to exercise independent judgement.
Ability to work well in fast paced environment.
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Ability to work well with a wide range of people.
Education: Bachelors degree in biology or related field.
Experience: 2 years scientific research experience.
