This is technical work performing a variety of technical and administrative tasks related to the provision of support services to computer users.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Monitors network system; sets up temporary accounts and software; configures equipment; provides system backup; installs networks, file servers, and new/repaired equipment; performs preventative maintenance; responds to problems and initiates corrective action.
Maintains inventory of all components and subassemblies for new computer systems; prepares order list; keeps maintenance records and documentation.
Provides a secure network environment; monitors for indications of security breaches and electronic vandalism; implements procedures to prevent such incidents.
Provides technical support to computer users; identifies and repairs problems; determines system needs after consultation with users; makes recommendations; installs needed hardware or software or modifies existing system. Develops and maintains user support documentation for software utilized by the department; serves as resource on technical questions. Maintains files and databases.
Trains users on system hardware, software, applications, and authentication devices.
Assists in developing departmental technology budget.
Assists in overseeing employees.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of computer networking software, interface protocols and query/programming languages.
Knowledge of a variety of software applications.
Problem solving skills.
Excellent communication, organization and time management skills.
Ability to work well with a wide range of people.
Education: Associates degree in computer science or a closely related field. Directly related work experience may be substituted at a ratio of two years of progressively more responsible experience for each year of education.
Experience: One year experience working with a computer network.
