This is highly technical work performing prescribed diagnostic x-ray procedures.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Operates x-ray machine to perform a variety of exams; assesses technical factors; determines proper positioning and processing to obtain film without excess radiation exposure to patient; takes x-ray.
Prepares x-ray films to be sent to consulting radiologists for interpretation; disseminates copies of reports for attending physician and clinicians, medical records chart, and x-ray department film folder.
Maintains daily log of patient exams; maintains filing system of x-rays.
Compiles and collates statistics; prepares a variety of inventory, procedure, quality assurance, and budget reports.
Monitors and maintains equipment; contacts necessary vendors as needed.
Provides on-call x-ray service during football games to injured players on both teams.
Signs out films for review by physician; monitors and maintains films on loans to ensure return.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, asepsis, sterile techniques and radiological positioning.
Knowledge of standard radiographic procedures and basic roentgenographic equipment involved in general diagnostic x-ray work.
Knowledge of the physical and biological effects of ionizing radiation.
Ability to operate roentgenographic equipment and to accurately position patients.
Ability to instruct and aid patients.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to maintain accurate records.
Ability to operate, control, calibrate and maintain equipment used in radiologic procedures.
Education: Two years training in an accredited school of radiologic technology.
Experience: Two years radiologic experience.
Registration: Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
