This is technical and administrative work overseeing the daily operations of an optical teaching and production laboratory.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Provides instruction for optometry students; prepares class materials and lectures; monitors and evaluates student work; assigns grades; assists students with individual counseling.
Oversees lab operations; monitors work and evaluates finished product ensuring it meets specifications; recommends improvements in policies and procedures.
Fabricates and grinds lens to prescription specifications; grinds special lenses for research professors; utilizes finishing equipment and assists in all areas of lab production..
Monitors and maintains lab equipment; calibrates equipment; monitors use of equipment to ensure safe operation.
Maintains inventory of supplies; monitors and reorders as necessary.
Provides guidance and direction to work study students assigned to laboratory.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of the functions, techniques, technical components and maintenance procedures of optometric equipment.
Knowledge of physics, algebra, geometry and mechanical drawing.
Knowledge of safety procedures.
Ability to use precision measuring instruments and related machinery and tools.
Ability to work with wide range of people.
Good communication skills.
Education: Associates degree in Optometric Technology.
Experience: 1 year optometric laboratory experience.
