Under limited supervision, performs a variety of complex administrative and creative tasks relating to the production of printed materials by the University.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Edits for content and proofreads material to be printed by IU; makes necessary editorial, spelling, and grammar corrections according to appropriate style guides; rewrites for clarity if necessary.
Typesets and designs, or approves type and design, of printed material; produces or approves graphics and artwork.
Maintains correspondence with authors; resolves questions arising from revision of material.
Produces supplemental materials for manuscripts.
Reviews and logs in all submitted manuscripts; contacts author regarding acceptance or rejection.
Produces promotional and marketing materials for printed piece.
Maintains all necessary databases; updates and purges as necessary to ensure completeness and accuracy.
Determines need for copyright information and obtains any necessary permissions.
Maintains back copy inventory.
May handle subscription, billing, and purchasing transactions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Excellent writing skills.
Excellent proofreading skills.
Strong design knowledge.
Knowledge of computer and desktop publishing software.
Ability to work independently and under strong deadline pressure.
Education: High school or GED required.
Experience: Two years experience in manuscript editing, print production or closely related field.
