Job Purpose

This is technical work performing quality control tasks utilizing a variety of testing and measuring devices to ensure parts are fabricated to precise dimensions and meet design standards.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

Uses precision measuring instruments to inspect and analyze materials and finished components and parts.

Sets up and operates electronic, computerized and laser equipment; inputs parameters and specifications. 

Uses hand held instruments such as micrometers, calipers and gages to take and record precise measurements to ensure components are fabricated to design specifications. 

Maintains accurate inspection, testing and nonconformance records; prepares QC reports.

Inspects and records information related to the procurement of raw materials; ensures the proper maintenance of material history logs, such as, lot numbers, material specifications, etc.

Calibrates equipment and monitors performance tests to ensure conformance to specifications.

Performs diagnostic testing at various stages of component assembly to ensure that equipment performs within acceptable tolerances and parameters.

Maintains awareness of technical advances in field; attends various training/programs to learn new fabrication techniques.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of computer spreadsheets and data bases.

Knowledge of the principles of metrology.

Ability to troubleshoot precision machine components.

Ability to perform measurement conversions and other math calculations.

Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and blueprints.

Minimum Requirements

Education: High school diploma or GED

Experience: Two years experience with precision measurement, inspection or quality control.
