This is technical work performing a variety of technical and record keeping tasks related to the assembly and maintenance of complex research instruments and prototypes.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Inspects and records all information related to the procurement of raw materials for the assembly of research equipment, components, and subassembly units; ensures the proper maintenance of materials history logs, such as, lot numbers, material specifications, etc.
Maintains materials inventory logs and monitors raw materials and assists in maintaining proper inventory levels.
Calibrates equipment and monitors performance tests for raw materials to ensure conformance to specifications and logs materials data.
Performs precise measurement and recording of raw materials and components used in the assembly process.
Assembles equipment, components, and subassemblies according to blueprints, written instructions, and engineering consultations; ensures assembly environment is maintained to exacting standards to prevent contamination and component failure.
Maintains assembly development reports and notes exceptional difficulties and makes recommendations for improvements to the fabrication and assembly process.
Performs diagnostic testing at various stages of component assembly to ensure that equipment performs within acceptable tolerances and parameters.
Maintains awareness of technical advances in field; attends various training/programs to learn new fabrication techniques.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of computer spreadsheets and data bases.
Knowledge of the principles of electronics.
Ability disassemble and reassemble precision components.
Ability to troubleshoot precision machine components.
Ability to perform measurement conversions and other math calculations.
Ability to perform precise and detailed assembly of electronic components.
Education: High school diploma or GED
Experience: Six months experience in electronic or a similarly precise assembly process.
