This is technical drafting work using CAD equipment to create layouts and detailed drawings, sketches, and diagrams as well as developing project details and specialized documentation for electrical, mechanical, facilities and construction departments.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Prepares technical documents, including drawings, floor plans, schematics and other sophisticated diagrams; meets with users, designers or engineering staff to determine design, application and project details including all views and dimensions necessary; researches applicable code requirements.
Prepares specifications; consults with user to ascertain requirements; determines best method of meeting needs; drafts specifications.
Prepares cost estimate; researches most economical method of meeting specifications; conducts vendor research on price and availability.
Develops any required presentation materials based on specifications.
Documents design changes and maintains copies of drawings, records and files on assignments.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge and skill in the use of computer, CAD and other related equipment and software.
Knowledge of applicable building codes and government regulations.
Problem solving skills.
Good organizational and time management skills.
Ability to conceptualize three dimensional structures and components.
Education: Associate's degree in drafting, engineering, or construction technology. Combinations of related education and experience may be considered.
Experience: Two years drafting experience.
