This is advanced technical work in the selection, design, fabrication, construction, installation, calibration, maintenance and modification of electronic devices and systems.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Designs, modifies, and fabricates a variety of electronic equipment from schematics and sketches; examines buildings to determine how best to install system; lays out conduit and power requirements for electricians; coordinates order with campus security and other departments; installs electronic equipment.
Monitors and maintains electronic equipment; performs routine maintenance; repairs as necessary.
Trains students in maintenance, calibration, repair and use of electronic devices and equipment; serves as a technical resource to equipment users.
Maintains records and files on the costs of repairing and building equipment; prepares cost estimates for planned projects; researches potential new equipment and system purchases; makes recommendations regarding new equipment and improvement to existing systems; researches cost and availability of parts and equipment;
Purchases supplies and equipment; maintains parts inventory for repairs. Maintains records and files on the costs of repairing and building equipment; submits bills for application to various accounts.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of the principles and techniques of digital and analog applied electronics.
Knowledge of the construction, use and operation of complex electronic equipment and devices.
Knowledge of available test and measurement equipment used in laboratories.
Knowledge of computers and word processing/spreadsheet software.
Ability to understand theory-of-operation manuals and complex wiring diagrams for analog and digital electronic systems.
Ability to design, construct, calibrate, maintain and repair electronic devices and equipments.
Ability to use electronic test equipment including basic measuring instruments..
Ability to provide effective instruction in the operation, calibration, repair, construction and maintenance of electrical and electronic equipment.
Ability to accurately estimate time and materials needed to perform assignments.
Education: Completion of an accredited post-high school program in electronics or electrical engineering.
Combinations of related education and experience may be considered.
Experience: Three years electronics design, modification and repair experience.
