This is highly technical work in the design, construction, installation, calibration, maintenance, and repair of digital and analog electronic devices and equipment.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Designs circuitry by selecting proper components and wiring them together to perform desired functions; designs, modifies, and fabricates a variety of electronic equipment from schematics and sketches.
Installs, maintains, calibrates and repairs electronic equipment. Modifies or builds electronic devices to perform specialize instructional and research functions. electronic equipment; performs routine maintenance.
Recommends suitable materials and components for use in fabricating electronic devices and instruments; sketches or diagrams a plan for the construction of electronic devices.
Diagnoses problems related to inadequate operation or malfunction of scientific devices by the use of specialized electronic instruments.
Trains students in maintenance, calibration, repair and use of electronic devices and equipment; serves as a technical resource to equipment users.
Maintains records and files on the costs of repairing and building equipment; prepares cost estimates for planned projects; researches cost and availability of parts and equipment; purchases supplies and equipment for use in electronics shop; maintains parts inventory for repairs.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of the principles and techniques of digital and analog applied electronics.
Knowledge of the construction, use and operation of complex electronic equipment and devices.
Knowledge of computers and word processing/spreadsheet software.
Ability to analyze complex wiring diagrams and specifications.
Ability to read and interpret electronic and electrical specifications and manuals.
Ability to design, construct, calibrate, maintain and repair electronic devices and equipments.
Ability to use standard electronic and electrical test equipment and bench tools.
Ability to provide effective instruction in the operation, calibration, repair, construction and maintenance of electrical and electronic equipment.
Education: Completion of an accredited post-high school program in electronics or electrical engineering.
Combinations of related education and experience may be considered.
Experience: Two years electronics design, modification and repair experience.
