Performs a variety of administrative tasks in support of the marketing, promotion, public relations, and communication activities of a University department, school, or other administrative unit.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Writes articles, bulletins, newsletters, speeches, press releases, and other related informative, marketing, and promotional material. Writes copy for use by publication, broadcast, or internet media.
Conducts interviews and gathers information on a variety of topics related to the unit's services and programs. Develops and maintains a database of information concerning faculty, students, alumni, and unit activities.
Provides support for the development and implementation of marketing and communications initiatives that promote the organization to internal and external audiences.
Copy edits and proofs written material for various internal and external publications and/or clients; oversees production of written material; prepares materials; prepares and formats brochures, graphs, posters, etc.
Coordinates preparations and logistics and oversees arrangements for promotional events.
Monitors unit's marketing budget; gathers and compiles budget data; assists with the writing and preparation of reports.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to write and prepare effective communications for distribution to the intended audiences.
Knowledge of computers and database/spreadsheet/word processing software.
Excellent planning and organizational skills.
Ability to copy edit a variety of written materials.
Excellent knowledge of editorial style guidelines.
Ability to accurately review and complete detail oriented information.
Education: High school diploma or GED.
Experience: Two years of editing, writing, marketing, or communications experience.
