This is technical and administrative work performing a variety of specialized and complex tasks related to the University's central financial administrative data systems.
The job of System Specialist is reserved for Central Office use only.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Provides technical guidance to system users; monitors computer configurations; identifies and solves problems and data errors; provides software and system support.
Reviews system needs after consultation with users; makes recommendations on system modifications; consults with software develop team regarding changes to the existing systems or the development of new systems.
Train users on system procedures and protocol.
Serves as resource on technical or administrative questions; investigates and resolves any inquiries regarding system procedures, related policies, or specific account or departmental actions.
Prepares, analyzes, and interprets system assurance, financial, and ad hoc query reports; communicates anomalies, problems, and findings to appropriate system administrators and development personnel.
Audits various transactions (on-line and form documents) to ensure compliance with university policies and procedures.
Maintains records or system transactions; develops and compiles reports on systems transaction data.
Investigates and resolves any discrepancies in financial documents and system transactions by reviewing complex financial transactions, system changes, and ad hoc queries.
Processes documents into the university's central computing on-line information systems; verifies accuracy of information, and resolves all discrepancies.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of accounting/bookkeeping procedures.
Knowledge of university data structures and files.
Knowledge of computer spreadsheet and data base software.
Knowledge of computer programming/data querying techniques.
Knowledge of standard office equipment and procedures.
Problem solving skills.
Good communication skills.
Ability to effectively interact with a diverse constituency.
Ability to expeditiously analyze complex data sets and information.
Education: Associates degree in accounting, computer science, information systems, or a closely related field.
Experience: Three years experience in computerized financial information system.
