Job Purpose

This is technical work involving the production of printed publications. Formats and manipulates files; interacts with and consults with customers and staff to understand and resolve issues regarding publications and production.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

Interprets requirements and specifications to create, format and manipulate customer files into print read status. 

Applies industry standards and University requirements; ensures proper application of visual identity style guide requirements for the typesetting and editing of a variety of stationery products.

Utilizes layout and illustration software to prepare a range of publications such as journals, programs, catalogs, magazines, etc; resolves compatibility issues between computer platforms, page and illustrator software programs, fonts, etc.

Interacts with and consults with customers, customer service staff and production staff to understand customer needs and production requirements; resolves publication and production issues. 

Provides advice to customers on alternatives regarding most efficient layout and formatting.

Typesets and proofreads prepress publications for accuracy; create and distribute proofs for customer approval.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to interact and effectively communicate with clients and maintain good customer relations.

Ability to perform work using multiple computer platforms.

Knowledge of and proficiency with various layout and illustration software.

Knowledge of offset and digital printing processes.

Minimum Requirements

Education: High school diploma or GED.

Experience: Three years in offset and digital electronic prepress workflow environments.
