This is communication service work operating switchboard equipment and following established guidelines to perform a variety of tasks relating to providing information to users.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Operates switchboard; process all incoming calls, routing them to correct location.
Provides general information, directory assistance, and assistance in dialing international calls and conference calls.
Processes incoming TDD calls for the hearing impaired.
Assists callers in emergency situations.
Generates, compiles, and analyzes statistics on system usage to ensure fast, professional service.
Provides technical support to system equipment.
Provides data entry and proofreading support in the production of printed and computer directories and data bases.
Provides set-up, verification, data entry, activation, operator assistance, and documentation for teleconferencing; provides information and training on teleconferencing.
Reports routine equipment failures; fills out and enters computerized trouble tickets; contacts appropriate technical specialist in urgent situations.
Assists in monitoring building security; activates after-hour alarm; monitors security camera, and screen building traffic.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of switchboard equipment and procedures.
Knowledge of computer and word processing software.
Good communications skills.
Ability to work well with a wide range of people.
Education: High school diploma or GED.
Experience: One year switchboard experience.
