This is service support work performing a variety of non-routine tasks involved in the coordination of the daily operations of department mail room and the processing of out-going mail.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Supervises the processing of all out-going mail of department to ensure that it meets the standards of the U.S. Postal Service.
Designs production process and lines, equipment configuration, and staffing requirements to expedite the processing of out-going mail.
Provides light maintenance to any equipment used by the mail room.
Evaluates job requests for mail processing to determine work priorities; plans and schedules work for mail room employees
Obtains bids for outside contractual work for supervisor's approval.
Oversees processing of incoming materials, matching them to invoices to ensure accuracy.
Supervises bulk mail process including; production, quality control, bundling, bagging, tagging, billing, and delivery to Post Office; provides training to staff in bulk mail rules and regulations.
Receives and responds to requests for information materials.
Maintains awareness of changes in U.S. Postal Service regulations that may affect mail room activities.
Oversees clerical functions such as record keeping, typing, filing, copying, and inventory control of supplies.
May assist in interviewing and hiring of mail room personnel.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of postal regulations.
Knowledge of computer and word processing/data base software.
Familiarity with standard office equipment and procedures.
Ability to work under extreme deadline pressure.
Ability to organize and supervise the work of others.
Ability to lift and handle mail bags and parcels up to seventy pounds.
Education: High school diploma or GED.
Experience: One year mail processing experience
